Intro Animation

Process

For this project, the client required a 5-7 second 2D animated intro clip. The statue in the background is a symbol for the University - a recognizable icon to create a setting for the short clip. Given the constraints of a few seconds and the interest of the client to see rough, hand drawn animation, the strategy behind the aesthetic and timing of the clip was to create maximum impact with minimal distraction. To indicate a composite student body (core of cadets and civilians), two characters fuse together at the statue and create the University logo - a visual metaphor for the University as a whole. Characters were designed such that they would contrast each other and evoke the opposing two different personalities of the University. It was also intended that they were somewhat gender neutral - so hair and tight clothing were avoided.

One of my first clients for this type of work, I appreciated the initial interest and continued involvement which client exercised during this iterative process. It was also a unique opportunity to explore hand drawn animation - a method some might view as archaic. I hope that I will have more clients like this in the future and more opportunities to explore interests outside of architecture.
